A theatrical performance can be performed at the Festival if it has a certain artistic level and appropriate aesthetic, scenic, acting and other qualities that are evaluated by the Festival's Artistic Council during the selection process.
Up to ten theater performances take part in the Festival annually, of which five are children's and five are intended for young people.
Theatrical institutions register their theatrical productions for participation in the Festival by September 30 at the latest. Along with the application, technical conditions and advertising material, as well as a recording of the performance, are submitted.
The right to participate in the Festival is given to theatrical productions whose actors in the children's competition are between 7 and 15 years old.
Actors aged 15 to 30 have the right to participate in the category of plays for young people.
Specially, in this category, the participation of younger or older actors is allowed if a certain role requires it and they are not included in the selection for the festival awards.
The official competition program of the Festival is determined by October 1st.
The selection of performances is made by the Festival's Artistic Council or the selector.
When determining the repertoire of the Festival, other things being equal, account is taken of the representation of theaters from all over Serbia and neighboring countries.
Theatre companies participating in the supporting program register their performances at the same time as the theater companies participating in the official competition.
After choosing the plays for the Festival, theater companies are obliged to contact the Festival and confirm their participation in the Festival in writing no later than five days from the date of notification.
At the Festival, as a rule, the following prizes are awarded in both competitions:
- Award for the best play as a whole
- Best Director Award
- Award for the most successful male role
- Award for the most successful female role
- Award for male and female episodic role
- The "Dušica Miloradović" award for the best scenography
- Award for the best costume design
The "Selimir V. Milosavljević" award for a contemporary dramatic text intended for children and young people (by competition).
All awards are decided by the Festival's three-member expert jury.
The jury can make a decision not to award any of the awards if it considers that the appropriate conditions for its award are not met.
The Board of Directors can adopt a decision on the awarding of other awards, all for the purpose of achieving the Festival's goals.
